🇫🇷 NV Champagne Premier Cru Extra Brut by Leclerc Briant

🇫🇷 2012 Château Batailley

🇪🇸 2012 Rioja Gran Reserva by Contino

🇫🇷 2012 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

🇫🇷 2012 Château Montrose

Leclerc Briant is a very nice entry level champagne and deserves credit for their crispiness and precision. Batailley is a bank and the 2012 does not disappoint. Contino got us fooled again but shows that you can get value in Spain. And it does not have to be jammy or fat. Still a good structure on the BSB. Lovely wine with some potential. Montrose knocked it out of the park. Beautiful wine with many more years left in the tank.

Thank you, Henning, Alex and Zonk!

🇮🇹 2004 Il Querciolaia by Castello di Querceto

🇫🇷 2006 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru by Domaine Faiveley

Drank the Montemarzino way too fast so it wasn't really able to evolve but it's definitely a fine white by Roagna. Certainly needs time. Interesting wine by Quintarelli but not my cup of tea. Haven't had a Coche in ages and really enjoyed this one despite its youth. Palladius is basically still a baby but holds everything a grand wine needs. Would love to revisit in 5 years. Faset is a beautiful rarity which was very much drinkable. Perwolff again is not my cup of tea but then again I'm not a huge fan of Blaufränkisch in particular. Vina Tondonia is always rock solid but it doesn't ignite enthusiasm. I personally prefer the whites anyway. Beautiful Saffredi while it might have been past peak, so if you still hold a couple of bottles you might wanna check. Good Querciolaia with a firm grip. Beautiful Clos de Vougeot while the name might be bigger than the wine. Could be due to the vintage but it sure is in a good drinking window now. Thank you, Christine and Manuel!

Easy drinking with Henning. The Brauneberger is too young even though it's just a village level wine. It kinda got worse with air. Beautiful Terre d'Argile even though I don't favor these Rhône wines anymore. Sonnenuhr Kabi is still a baby but surely a very nice Kabi, especially for the bad vintage. Loved the Brauneberger Juffer by Fritz Haag and favored it over the Kabi by his brother. But it's more a matter of taste. Both represent (some of) the best the Mosel region has to offer. Thank you, Henning!

Sunny summer session at my 3rd living room. Kicking it off with a Pierre Péters BdB which is definitely a good champagne while I prefer a different style. We drank the Allégeance a little too fast (as way too often) because it opened up a little during the course. This champagne needs time though. Surprisingly good and fresh is the Launegild. Very well structured, crisp and great length. Fantastic wine! The RdP does not disappoint. Can still go for ages but a fabulous Pinot from Germany. The best for last as the 2007 Himmelreich feels like it's from heaven. Perfect shape and terrific wine! Thank you, Georgia and Christoph!

We kicked it off with two village level Rieslings from von Buhl and Bürklin-Wolf. Both very respectable whites while I favored the Bürklin for a touch more complexity. Sorry Alex but the Devon Terrassen were having a bad day and could not impress after the two Palatinate Rieslings. Rose Rock Chardonnay was good to drink but nothing to remember. Both Knipser wines were in good shape while I favored the Mandelpfad a little more. Might be the vintage and not necessarily the plot. Brio is very young, of course but shows potential. Beautiful Domaine de Chevalier while I would give it a few more years.

Thank you, Henning, Alex and Zonk!

🇩🇪 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett by Schloss Lieser

🇫🇷 2009 Château Lafon la Tuilerie double magnum

Shootout between two recent Kabi. While the Juffer has the far more intriguing and seductive nose, the Wehlener is the deeper and richer Kabi of the two. In a dream world I would mix both of them to compose the perfect Kabi. The Lafon La Tuilerie was contributed by Hartwig as he had recently won an auction with this wine. Good tannin structure and acidity, good balance this was a fun wine to enjoy. It's good value and it shouldn't be the last bottle I had. Thank you, Hartwig and Alex!

🇩🇪 2010 Zeltinger Himmelreich Kabinett by Markus Molitor

🇩🇪 2018 Niederberg Helden Kabinett by Schloss Lieser

Very nice Ölberg by Von Winning which was scarce with minerality and shy fruit. Aligoté is just too young even though it's a simple wine. Ohligsberger was a fun Kabinett and the VO is good value for money. The Tannat was too young as expected and still pretty tight, so the Maury made the race as companion for our meat, even though it was sweeter. Pinot Noir by Reibold got everyone excited and I was surprised as it hadn't ignited anything in me in the past. Le Vieux Donjon is a classic CdP and in a good spot now. It's just that I don't need CdP in my life anymore. Cuvée X will always be a mystery to me. Sometimes it's great, sometimes I don't get it. And this was one of the latter nights. Goldtröpfchen was a value wine but it rocked nobody's world or left some disappointed even more so. Sonnenuhr yet again disappointed. It's not in a good spot now. Himmelreich from the atrocious 2010 was a mediocre Kabinett and the Schloss Lieser in the end was more fun. Thank you everyone!

🇫🇷 2009 Château Moulin Haut-Laroque

🇩🇪 2005 Trabener Würzgarten Spätlese * by Müllen

🇩🇪 2001 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** by Markus Molitor

We kick it off with two champagnes and I personally prefer the Cuvee 225 while we had some differing opinions. It was the richer of the two and after a while in the glass it showed more complexity and depth. Hubacker was the wine of the night. Starting to close up but flexing his muscles with profound acidity which is so severely lacking in many German wines of that vintage. Comando G Viticultores is undrinkable for me. Can't rate it. It's green, it's oaky, it's tannic and overextracted. Not my cup of tea. The Arioso still needs more time and is definitely the finer and more elegant wine of the two CdP. Omnia is in a pretty good spot now but much more powerful with broad shoulders. Interesting as I had remembered it far more delicate. Nobody recognized the Bernadotte and it's a wine we know well and drank it often. Weird spot or maybe context. Clos du Roy is decent. Moulin Haut-Laroque is definitely fun for the money and with age now shows up to the table with good structure and manners. 2005 Spätlese by Müllen was what we needed while the Molitor looked a bit pale in contrast and did not excite me.

Thank you everyone!

🇫🇷 2014 Bourgogne Rouge by Lucien Le Moine

🇫🇷 2010 Château Monbrison

An ambitious Chardonnay by Wagner Stempel but in the end too much oak and not enough depth to be a serious Burgundy opponent. Price-wise a tad too much. Saint-Romain could not convince either but it might be the youth. Bourgogne Blanc for calibration but 2014 was a good vintage. Pernand-Vergelesses underscores that as 2013 falls off by a mile to the stunning and highly enjoyable 2014. Bourgogne Rouge is a rock solid and Monbrison could have taken a few more years but it's fun to drink.

Thank you everyone who participated! Funky start into our little session. Alte Reben was somewhat muffled and maybe needs more time. Rehbacher Steig also failed to impress while I loved it very much 4 years ago. Saarfeilser was in a funk as well, so Riesling-wise it was a blackout. Château d'Escurac was a pleasant surprise for me as I anticipated that it would need longer. But at that price point it's a fabulous Bdx. Impressive Villacreces with power and balance while the Artuke is too young, of course and tastes artificial. Must be the modern style. Fabulous as always is the Gran Reserva although it might take a few years until it truly peaks but it's wonderful to drink right now also. Wonderful Château d'Ampuis coming right out the gates and a beautiful Château Beychevelle which is slightly behind the apex IMHO.

Nice starter with the Murmure which with air started to evolve. Hammelmann is still disappointing and tasting it back fresh with a fresh palate didn't do anything for me. Solid Saar and Brauneberger Riesling. Niederberg Helden was way too sweet and failed to impress while it was supposedly the winner of the Thanisch vs. Schloss Lieser battle at LaVinesse. With experienced tasters. It's hard to believe for me. Saumur blanc 16 is so much better than the 15 which makes you want to throw out everything of it from 15. Nice NSG and Mandelgraben. Very interesting Granato which I had never had with comparable age. Sonnenuhr Kabinett is just stunning as always.

Thank you everyone who was involved! Gimonnet was decent but Les Arpents Rouges was far more interesting. Took a while until it opened up though. Fantastic Clos de Guichaux but it should also lay low for a couple of more years. Very fine Berg Rottland but I will say that I am not a particular Breuer fan. Excellent wines but just not my style. Falkenstein overrated as always. Riesling 100 has to be a joke when you look at the prices. Riesling trocken by Wittmann was the better Riesling. Fantastic Kabinett by Maximin Grünhaus and again the question why I am not able to stock up on it more. Solid Cantenac Brown from a fabulous vintage.

🇩🇪 2016 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett by Schloss Lieser

Spontaneous get together with Henning and his first visitor for this year. We start off with a basic Riesling by SF and since we have some more SF in the cellar we continue our journey that way. Felseneck > Kupfergrube. Which doesn't come much of a surprise but this wine was way different a year ago. It has developed the typical SF nose again and is by far the better wine. Not saying that the Kupfergrube is bad but it's hard to beat the Felseneck. 2016 Kabi by Schloss Lieser was a night cap. In good shape but as I remembered it, it's a tad too sweet for my taste. Still a very nice Kabi!

Klosterberg left me quite speechless. Ever single time I drink Peter Jakob Kühn I wonder why I don't have more of that in my fridge. Westhofen is still young and needs to develop while the Abtserde was very much drinkable. Normally, you should wait another 5-10 years. Tenuta di Valgiano is a decent red wine. Auslese by Michel did the job but didn't really linger in my mind.

🇮🇹 2013 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo by Emidio Pepe

Another fabulous night with the boys. Müller-Catoir is normally not my style but I actually enjoyed this one. 2011 Idig was so much better than the 2012 which supports the idea of aging. Togni was a very nice Napa Cab. Good GPL while I don't agree on 95PP. Fabulous Pichon Baron from the 2000 vintage. Trilogia tricked everyone again but when in line with Bordeaux the texture will betray the Greek wine. Felseneck was in pretty bad shape that day which can only relate to the young age but it will definitely come around. Rock solid Emidio Pepe. Thank you, guys!

La Closerie is always a treat and how fabulous that magnum was. From the very first sip to the last drop. Corton Charlemagne is grand but they sure need time to develop. Thank you, Olivier!

🇫🇷 2003 Château Montrose

🇩🇪 2004 Graacher Domprobst Spätlese by Willi Schaefer

🇩🇪 2013 Trittenheimer Apotheke Alte Reben Auslese by Loersch

The Grande Année was way better than I had remembered it. The last time it was completely closed but this one was drinking very nicely. A rich and elegant champagne from the famed 2008 vintage. Idig in good shape but showing that it needs time. Wouldn't touch another one for a couple of years. Kirchspiel 2018 is still in an open phase and showing all of its potential. Not long until this one will go dormant though. Highly enjoyable the Montrose from the hot 2003 vintage. What a wine! I would never have guessed it to be 2003 with its elegance and fine structure. Wonderful. The Willi Schaefer was slightly disappointing as it is from one of my favorite vintages 2004. Just needed a little more oomph. 2013 Auslese by Loersch is just fabulous and can still go for ages. Thank you, Hans and Fabian!

🇫🇷 2018 Haute-Côtes de Nuits by Emmanuel Rouget

The champagne is still too young despite the years it has already seen. 2002 by Jacquesson is a very nice champagne but questions arose as to whether it is worth the money. Domprobst Kabi was a very fine and elegant Riesling that made me wonder again why we are drinking so few wines by Constantin. U500 was way different than I remembered it. Still a very good Riesling but somehow it dove back and closed up a bit. Would let this lay down for a while longer. Interesting Jean Faure and certainly from a very good vintage. Cos is always good but this might be on the weaker side of Cos. Especially considering the fact that they very rarely take a misstep and regularly produce wines at the top end. Ponsot is a legendary winemaker but this bottle was slightly disappointing. When looking at the price tag maybe even more so. Same goes for the Rouget while we give this the benefit of the doubt as it was very young. Amon Ra is a powerful Shiraz from Australia and it is just like I would expect it to be. Broad shoulders but with elegance and good structure. Thank you, Hans and Fabian!

🇮🇹 2010 Costa Russi by GAJA

🇮🇹 1999 Lupicaia by Castello di Terricio

🇮🇹 1991 Amarone by Dal Forno

Clos Béru is a razor sharp and precise Chablis with substance. The Butteaux was off and just too young so it didn't showcase all it had to offer as it is normally an iconic wine. Costa Russi is very good but maybe still 5-10 years from its peak. Lupicaia was drinking very nicely and it was a very pleasant surprise. The Amarone is still strong and powerful but shows signs of age and can still last. Thank you, Stefan and Manuel!

Fabulous Hipping and slowly beginning to hit the spot. Powerful Chardonnay by Kante but it's young and not necessarily my style. Redigaffi is also still a baby but drinkable  The 1985 Lynch Bages was a very pleasant surprise. I haven't had to many Bdx from that vintage but this one hit it right out of the park. Perfect state right now. Unico is always a treat when in good condition. Thank you, Christine and Manuel!
